“What is World Literature?” By Joy Kirchhoff
After reading “What is World Literature,” I have been more educated and have a better knowledge of what world literature means. David Damrosch presented us with his 3 important World Literature, including Classic, Masterpiece, and Window. In my own definition, I say World Literature is when one area of people who developed and studied their own culture and wants to spread it to more places to make their writings more powerful and help others understand the importance of their culture. It is important to have the proper knowledge and understanding before writing and passing along the literature of your own. When translating for example, poems, making sure it’s translated correctly is important because when it is not properly transformed, the real meaning can get lost from the original literature. As we keep moving forward, different literature develops and can be found in different parts of the world with its own unique culture. Not everyone have the same culture but in a way we can be combined as one. The ability to communicate throughout the world with writings from different cultures benefits us to be more connected with one another.
